| Prayer is such an important thing. A true gift from God. As with everything else we want to learn to pray better or more effectively. So, like with other spiritual things we look for to the scriptures to teach us. The Psalms show us examples of how to express what we feel. Who has not read the 23rd Psalms and taken comfort in it? In Luke chapter 11 and verse 1 one of Jesus' disciples asked him to teach him to pray. I don't think he wanted the disciple to just repeat the words. I know he did not want us today to just repeat his words because his reference to the Kingdom coming would be incorrect since his Kingdom has already come and is here today. So, we looked at what he said tried to understand the concepts in the prayer. With that and considering other parts of the scriptures, like Psalms, we came up with our version of this prayer. Not word for word but in concept. If you agree feel free to pray this prayer. |
| Our Prayer |
We call upon our great and almighty God. Thine be the power and glory forever and ever. We come before you with singing and prayer. We praise you as our creator. We say you are the giver of all good and wonderful things and this is true. We hold up even your name as holy. We hold up your power in our lives to each other and to our fellow man. Thine be the glory forever and ever. Thine be the glory forever and ever. Forgive, Father, for I have sinned. We have sinned. All have sinned here exect for one. We praise you as a righteous God. We thank you, Lord, for your mercy. We thank you for grace. We thank you for sending your son that we, who are lost, might have hope. Help us to live in strength. Help us to live in truth. Help us to live in peace with the knowledge of the kingdom and abundant life now. Bless us Father as your children. Give us the things of this life that we need. Bless us in the presence of our enemies that they will know that our God is great. Help us to forgive those that are against us. Open the hearts of our enemies that they may share in your blessings. Give them the thirst for the truth that will reveal your will from their own hearts. Open our mouths that we might share the good news to all mankind. Let no one parish, Father, but bring all to an understanding of your will that they might choose to worship you. Let us be glad in your presence. Let us drink in the life you give. Be with us as we travel through this sin filled world. We will fear nothing, Lord, for you comfort us. We serve you, Lord. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ because he said we could. Amen |
