TWO BUILDERS

       Mt. 7:24-29

 

1. False teachers are often condemned.

A. Steal the word.  Jer. 23:30.

B.  Beware. Mt. 7:15-20; 2 Pet. 2:1-3; Jas 3:1; 1 Jn 4:1

 

2. Hearer is also responsible.

A. Not everything that is taught is true.

B. 2 Th. 2:10-12; Parable of Sower. Lk 8:5

C. Jn. 8:32; 1 Pet 1:22

 

3. To listen is not enough.

A. Both heard His word.

B. Hear and do. Mt. 7:21-23; Rev 22:14; Jas 1:21-22; 2 Th 1:6-9; Mt. 23:1-3

 

4.  Parable teaches all are builders for eternity.

A. Only two roads.  Mt 7:13-14

B.  Some had wedding garment; some didn’t. Mt 22:11-14

 

5. There will be a time of testing.

A. Some testing here.  Can you recommend your religion?  If financial reverses, sickness,                   death, loss of job, friendship broken, lied about, laughed at, when you are in minority                  in what you believe and practice.

B. Final test at the judgment.  2 Cor 5:10; Rev 20:12

C. Discuss 1 Cor 3:9-15

 

6. Superstructure can be faulty.  Huts of clay.

A. Here the foundation is considered.

B. If foundation is faulty, superstructure will crack and crumble.

C. Church will stand because of foundation. Mt. 16:16; 1 Cor 3:11

 

7.  Only those who build on the rock by hearing and doing will stand.
