THE MISUNDERSTOOD CHRIST

2. Many names given to Jesus which reveal His nature (Isaiah 9:6).

3. One not listed:   Misunderstood.

 

Discussion

1. JEWS MISUNDERSTOOD HIS COMING AND MISSION.

A. Birth, mission, kingdom clearly foretold.

B. Thought it only earthly.

1) Herod. Mt. 2

2) Oppose Caesar. Lk. 23:1-2

3) Force Him to be a king. Jn 6:15

4) Mother of Zebedee’s children. Mt. 20:21

5) Apostles. Acts 1:6

C. Not of this world. Jn 18:36

2. PURPOSE OF HIS MIRACLES MISUNDERSTOOD.

A. Healing not express purpose. Compassion was one element. Mk 1:40-41

B. Two purposes: produce faith (Jn 20:30-31); confirm the word. (Mk 16:19-20).

C. Duration. 1 Cor. 13:8-10

D. Miracle not based on faith of Lazarus, Eutychus, Dorcas.

3. HIS SILENCE WAS MISUNDERSTOOD.

A. Pilate. Mk. 15:3-5

B. Prophecy.  Isa 53; Acts 8:32-33

C. Today some think silence gives approval.

1) Anything not specifically forbidden is accepted.

2) They try to justify instrumental music in worship; gambling, drinking.

4. HIS CHURCH IS MISUNDERSTOOD.

A. They misunderstand what it is, how many there are, how to become a member of it,                   and the importance of being faithful in it.

B. They misunderstand the mission of the church. Eph 3:10-11; Mk 16:15

5. THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST IS MISUNDERSTOOD.

A. The 1,000 year doctrine.

B. He will come to judge (Jn 5:28-29) separate wheat and tares, sheep and goats, saved and lost.

 

Conclusion

1. What has coming of Christ meant to you?

2. Unless you are living for Him, you fall short.

3. Unless you are living the Christian life, you are not ready for his second coming. Obey today.
